Pocket Monsters, Onegai! (or "Pocket Monsters, Please!") is a petition, plain and simple. It's purpose is to convince the Powers That Be that we the people need an unexpurgated, subtitled copy of the Pocket Monsters anime.
Why, you may ask, is the English dub not good enough? It's a very good thing that you asked! The dub isn't bad, really, but so many things have been changed from the original Japanese series that many of us fans feel we're missing out.
The seiyuu (voice actors) are obviously different from the original. We'd like a version that features the talents of Megumi Hayashibara, Matsumoto Rica, Miki Shinichirou, Kobayashi Yuko, Ueda Yuuji, and others.
The soundtrack has been modified to the point of insanity. Where once there was silence, in the dub there is filler music. And where are the original Japanese songs, especially the opening and ending themes?
All of the Japanese writing (on buildings and signs, et cetera) has been painted over, and in some cases even words that were written in English have been changed. We'd like the cels unedited from the original.
All of the character names and Pokemon names are different in the English version. And many Japanese cultural references have been changed or removed. (The "doughnuts" fiasco may ring bells with many fans).
What we would like is for an unedited, subtitled version of Pocket Monsters to be released on VHS and/or DVD. We plan to press this matter to Nintendo (the owners of Pocket Monsters), 4Kids Entertainment (who adapted the original into English) and various distributors who may be interested in such a release. We hope that if we can gather a large volume of supporters (our lofty goal is 3,000 signatures) that we can convince someone to listen.
